If I know anything as a destination wedding photographer, it’s that a cloudy California day is romantic. Especially in Malibu Creek State Park! The soft fog rolling over the mountains, the earthy tones from the trails, and the quiet stillness after the rain… even though it wasn’t what we had planned for this engagement session, I’ll always jump at the chance to make magic in the rain.
These two embraced every part of the weather. Instead of waiting for sunshine, they leaned into the moodiness of the landscape, and it could not have fit them more perfectly.
Bryn and Tyler began their engagement session with their adorable pup tagging along, which instantly made everything fun. Please always bring your pups!!
Their first outfits were casual and laid back to kick off the session. Bryn wore a flowing light-colored dress paired with a denim jacket and sneakers, while Tyler kept things classic in a black tee and jeans. It matched the natural vibe of our location so well.

As the session continued, the clouds settled lower over the mountains and created the dreamiest backdrop. It felt like we were in Hawaii somehow! Bryn changed into a black dress with soft puff sleeves that really anchored them in each photo. She looked amazinnngg with her loose curls and combat boots. Tyler paired neutral tones with darker pants, which complemented his fiance perfectly.
The rolling hills were covered in soft greens, and the fog wrapping around the mountains gave every image a hint of nostalgia right off the bat.
Even with muddy trails and light rain throughout the evening, Bryn and Tyler never stopped smiling or laughing together.

Some of the best moments happened in between poses. Walking hand in hand through the grass, forehead touches, quiet laughs, and little pauses while they soaked it all in.
Not to mention, rainy engagement sessions often create such a unique atmosphere. The colors just take on the most beautiful hues and photograph so well. For Bryn and Tyler, the weather added so much emotion and warmth to their gallery, in my opinion! I appreciated their willingness to still meet up and take pictures together!

Their last outfit was extra beautiful in the rich, moody colors of the park. Bryn wore a deep wine colored gingham dress. And Tyler opted for an all-black look. They also brought their cowboy hat into the mix, and looked right at home alongside the cactus and rugged mountains.
These two were a delight to photograph, and I’m so excited for them in this season of life!

If you are dreaming about romantic and adventurous session: put Malibu Creek State Park on your list! This session is such a perfect reminder that you do not need perfect weather to create something unforgettable in a beautiful location.
Congratulations, Bryn and Tyler! Thank you for choosing me as your destination photographer.
