Monica and Adam’s Canyonlands National Park engagement session felt like the kind of story you really do not want to rush. As a destination engagement photographer, these are the moments that stay with you. The quiet in the desert mixed with the goey golden light.
The feeling of being somewhere completely different together.
These two traveled from Iowa to Utah, bringing their family along for the experience. It was more than a photo session… it was a core memory for their family playing out in front of my camera.
Cue:
Wide open views.
Layers of red rock.
Soft, hazy light wrapping around their fam in the most beautiful way.

We started along the cliffside. The scale of the landscape made every moment feel even bigger. You know those backdrops that just make you feel so small in the best way? The canyonlands are that!
Monica and Adam chose outfits that felt true to them, while also complementing the desert tones. As your photographer, I will help you coordinate your outfits so everything looks cohesive. I’m mentally constructing your images in my head weeks before we ever get to the location. So I promise you’ll be ready for before you step in front of the camera.
For their first outfit, Monica wore a long black dress. It moved beautifully in the wind and created a soft contrast against the warm landscape. Adam’s look was classy, with a white button-down and dark denim.
Monica wore a graphic tee with olive pants and ankle boots. Adam layered a rust-toned vest over a deep red shirt. And for the last outfit, they changed into solid neutrals that really popped against the red rocks around them. Adam wore a textured sweater that added depth to the photo, and Monica opted for a vintage-inspired zip up.
You’ll hang these photos in different areas of the house. Use them for different posts on social media. The change of pace tends to work really well for these sessions!

Working as a destination wedding photographer is so special to me. It is not just about the travel and gorgeous locations. It is about the experience we create together in each place.
The sky softened, while the colors deepened everywhere. They slowed down, taking it all in. Those final moments felt quiet and real.

If you are dreaming of something similar, think beyond just the photos. Think about how you want the day to feel, and choose a place that inspires you. Wear something that feels like you. Allow space to enjoy it.
Being a destination wedding photographer means helping couples create an experience that reflects their story.
