It’s no secret that Moab is one of my absolute favorite places on earth! I was pumped when Zack and Crystal reached about a Moab adventure couples session with their dog, Leica the Samoyed (who even has her own Instagram page)! My photographer/dog lover heart died over her name and fluffy face.
I take every opportunity to photograph Moab elopements, weddings, and sessions (especially if dogs are involved too)! Seeing the Colorado River winding a path through the colorful canyon beneath the red rock cliffs takes my breath away EVERY TIME. I met up with Zack, Crystal and their sweet Samoyed dog Leica at Dead Horse Point for their session and we explored a few favorite and noteworthy spots.
Moab Couples Adventure Session
Moab is home to the gorgeous red rock canyons of Dead Horse Point State Park and the red rock stone formations at Arches National Park. For outdoor lovers, Moab is the ultimate adventure vacation destination in Utah.
Photos at Moab’s Thelma & Louise Point
For Zack & Crystal’s adventure session, we decided to take a different approach to Dead Horse Point and went to the bottom instead of the cliffs! We shot along the road at Moab’s famous Thelma & Louise Point. The famous scene from the movie “Thelma & Louise” of the car jumping off the cliff took place in Dead Horse State Park!

We stayed in Dead Horse State Park for their entire session and went to a few various outlook spots with views of the red rock canyon and the Colorado River running through it.
Dog-friendly Locations in Moab
If your furry four-legged friend is joining on vacation in Moab, it’s important to be aware of any regulations and rules regarding dogs. Moab is very dog-friendly!
At Dead Horse State Park, dogs are allowed on all hiking trails and at the campground (bring your leashes please!).
Other dog-friendly hikes and activities in Moab to check out:
- Fisher Towers Trail
- Mill Creek Trail
- Corona & Bowtie Arch Trail (This is a super popular hiking trail, so get there early!)
- Dog-Friendly Canoe Trips at Moab Rafting & Canoe Company
Dog-friendly Moab Restaurant Patios
Important to know: At Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park, activities with your dog are extremely limited. Dogs aren’t allowed on any hiking trails or off-trail locations. However, dogs are allowed at campgrounds (leashed), picnic areas, established roads and parking areas. Thankfully, Moab offers several other locations to explore with your pup!
Activities in Moab
If you love being active outside, Moab offers so many different outdoor activities, for instance:
- River Rafting
- Mountain Biking
- Hiking
- Climbing & Canyoneering
- Jeep & Four Wheeler Tours
One thing I love about adventurous couples sessions is that you can easily incorporate vacation activities into your photo session. This takes out the sometimes awkward feeling of what to do actually do during a session. An adventure session allows me to capture you and your lover doing an activity you love to do together or maybe exploring a new area or trying something new! Get in touch with me and we can talk about different options for Moab activities you could try for an adventure session!
