There is something unmistakably magical about fall at Solitude Resort in Park City. The warm, vibrant colors on the trees! The air feels crisp and clean. I wish I could wrap it up in a bottle because it’s so magical to photograph! And something about the “off season” in Utah makes intimate weddings feel even more meaningful. Maybe it’s the quiet resort towns? But there’s something really sacred in the air.
Emilee and Sean embraced all of that beauty when they made the difficult (but clear) choice to reschedule and downsize their day during the height of the COVID era.
I think we all relate to the shifting plans and unmet expectations that hit our world in 2020. And these two were no exception. They accepted the curveball life threw at them, and made the day their own. Their celebration became smaller, but it was just as special and meaningful.
The morning began with each of them getting ready separately at Solitude Resort in Park City.
Emilee wore a soft pink robe as her makeup artist helped her get ready for the day. Her floral crown was delicate and full of texture, it added that distinctly bridal feel to all the photos. Sean dressed in a dark, tailored suit that looked really classy and timeless. Their details were simple and thoughtful, which I loved as a destination wedding photographer.
When they stepped outside for their first look, everything looked SO cohesive. I was so excited behind my camera. I could just see the magic happening. Think: gold leaves surrounding them, warm sunlight pouring in… the pre-ceremony jitters palpable in the air. I loved it all. Emilee’s lace gown glowed against the autumn branches. Sean could not take his eyes off her. Their first moments together were full of relief and joy after months of uncertainty and shifting plans. They were finally gettin’ married!!
And I was so happy they chose Solitude Resort in Park City for the backdrop to their big day.
Because after the first look, we explored the mountain paths and open meadows. And, EXCUSE ME, no location has any business being this gorgeous. I love photographing Park City weddings. Especially in the fall. The tall pines frame every view. The aspen leaves turning warm shades of amber and honey. The quiet of the season makes it easy to relax and feel like yourself on your wedding day. Photographing around this resort feels peaceful and effortless. Emilee and Sean walked, laughed, and took in the beauty around them.
Their ceremony was held outside under a circular floral arch with crescent moon shaped florals.
The moon and stars joined the sun to marry Emilee and Sean, thanks to their incredible decor! The backdrop of evergreens with the moon-shaped arch made the scene feel like a movie. Masks were offered to every guest, so everyone could gather safely. Only their closest people were present. The intimacy of the moment added a calm, personal energy to the vows. Instead of a large reception, they chose to wander through Park City together. With fewer people around, we found beautiful pockets of light near the lake, the lodge, and the base of the mountain.
As the sun set, the scenery turned even more dramatic. The mountains held a soft glow.
Emilee’s gown moved beautifully in the breeze, while the sun dipped down over the mountains. The quiet evening made their portraits so, so special.
Their day was calm, heartfelt, and filled with intention. It was a reminder that small celebrations can hold just as much magic as the grand ones. Sometimes life throws you these curve balls, and you just have to lean into the changes.
