A salt flats engagement session is one of those experiences that gives you a setting unlike anywhere else. It’s unique and instantly recognizable! The endless white salt, distant mountain ranges, and a horizon that seems to go on forever create a naturally editorial backdrop. That’s why so many of my couples choose to take photos here.
For Adriana and Kevin, we kept things simple. The focus was on the two of them, the incredible landscape, and a little champagne to celebrate. The result was stylish, sexy, and genuinely fun.
For these two, a Salt Flats engagement session was a dream come true.
Utah’s Bonneville Salt Flats are expansive.
The white salt crust stretches for miles, with the Silver Island Mountains and surrounding ranges creating contrast along the horizon.
It is also a location that changes throughout the day. Light reflects beautifully off the salt, creating a bright, almost surreal quality. There is very little competing with the landscape, which makes it ideal for couples who want their images to feel intentional and elevated without needing an elaborate setup.
A few things to keep in mind when planning your Salt Flats engagement session:
- Check the weather and surface conditions before arriving.
- Plan for sun, wind, and temperature changes.
- Bring plenty of water and sun protection.
- Wear shoes you are comfortable walking in.
- Check for racing events and temporary access restrictions.
- Leave the salt exactly as you found it.
Also, as a heads up: The Bureau of Land Management notes that conditions can change quickly, and vehicles should not drive onto the salt when it is wet.

Adriana’s red pleated dress was the perfect choice for this landscape. The saturated color created a striking contrast against the white salt, while Kevin was refined in blacks and grays.
Together, the outfits were elevated and polished. That balance works especially well in a location this minimal, and you will be the center of attention in the images.
We also incorporated champagne into the session. It gave the two of them something to do naturally and added an element of celebration without making the experience overly staged.
(And honestly, it was a lot of fun).
There were quiet moments, plenty of laughter, dancing, movement, and obviously a fun champagne pop.
I kept the directions & posing simple and let their personalities come through.
