Sarah + Ayaz decided to get married at Utah’s best kept secret: the Church of Dirt! Located up Guardsman Pass near Park City, the Church of Dirt is an incredible mountain ‘venue’. It boasts 360-degree views of the Uinta and Wasatch mountain fronts.
Having your wedding at the Church of Dirt
The Church of Dirt is as unique a wedding venue as they come, even for a place like Utah. A perfect fit for the outdoorsy, adventurous couple, this beautiful site comes equipped with a wood alter made from the aspen trees, benches for your friends and family, and of course the best views on the mountain range. There is no official means of reserving your wedding here- everything is run on the honor system! To reserve your wedding, couples will leave their chosen date, ceremony time, and contact info at the trailhead on a rock or piece of wood for others to find.
A Snowy Church of Dirt Wedding
Sarah and Ayaz reserved September 29th as their wedding date here- a day in Utah that usually brings warm sun and the first beginnings of fall color and chill. We were all surprised, and maybe a little dismayed at first, to wake up on their wedding day to a surprise Utah snowstorm. The canyons were barely drivable, and Sarah’s cabin to get ready in was no longer accessible. Furthermore, when family drove up to the ceremony site, they found the famous wood alter at the Church of Dirt had been knocked down by the storm.
Happily, Sarah and Ayaz decided to risk moving forward with their plan. We’re all so glad they did! A nearby church became the backup getting ready venue, and they said their vows as the snow fell around them. The clouds came down to play on the mountaintops for them. Everything was surreal.
I love how Sarah incorporated Ayaz’s culture and beliefs into her wedding look. So beautiful, and a loving tribute to who he is!
We all enjoyed the icy, snowy views driving back down Big Cottonwood Canyon to Salt Lake City’s Trolley Square. Sarah and Ayaz then met their loved ones at Tucci’s to dig into some pasta + dance the night away.
